The creeping overreach of judges both at home and European Court of Human Rights is alarming [Video]

Misjudged

JUDGES are supposed to interpret and uphold laws — not make them.

Democracy does not mean having an unelected and unaccountable judiciary deciding how we should live our lives.

The creeping overreach of judges both at home and especially in Europe is alarming.

Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho is rightly concerned about a European court deciding Switzerland’s climate change policies violate fundamental human rights.

Eco activists — inevitably supported by Greta Thunberg — had claimed 30 countries were failing to protect citizens from flooding and heatwaves.

Astonishingly, the ECHR judges suggested actions by democratic governments were not enough.

Apparently, only intervention by the courts could fully ensure people are protected.

We should be deeply alarmed by what amounts to a kind of judicial activism which serves only to encourage eco fanatics to launch endless legal challenges to every Government scheme.

Georgian 'Foreign Agent' Law Advances In 67 Seconds Amid Violent Clashes Outside [Video]

The Georgian parliament's Legal Committee took just 67 seconds to advance a controversial "foreign agent" bill on May 13. Some lawmakers said they could not make it to the chamber in time due to the massive police operation outside. Earlier, security forces clashed with demonstrators, beating some of the protesters. Opposition groups say the proposed bill could endanger both civil liberties and the country's bid for European Union membership.
