Over 20 years ago, Texas A&M University professor Lisa Colvin whispered a promise into the ear of one of her dying laboratory students. This weekend, that promised will be fulfilled.
Colvin, a professor in A&M’s Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management, has been a driving force behind bringing this weekend’s U.S. Paralympics Cycling Road Open to A&M’s RELLIS campus in Bryan. The two-day event begins Saturday. The nation’s top para-cyclists will compete to qualify for the European leg of the 2024 UCI Para-Cycling World Cup season and secure a spot at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris later this summer. Racing will feature time trial and road race formats. Admission to the event is free.
“We’re going to have the crème de la crème here,” Colvin said. “We’re going to have individuals here that are going to make the Olympic team and this is the road to Paris.”
