Forest rangers respond to multiple fires amid elevated fire risk [Video]

Areas of southern and coastal Maine were at high fire risk on Saturday while other areas were at moderate risk.

AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine — Maine Forest Rangers kept busy on Saturday as crews responded to multiple fires in Aroostook County amid elevated fire risk across much of the state.

The group, which is a part of Maine’s Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry, posted on social media their responses to multiple blazes and wildfires, including in Wade, Houlton, Linneus, St. Francis, New Sweden, and in areas near Millinocket and Pushaw Lake in Penobscot County.

While much of the state was under moderate fire risk, which means “fires can start from most accidental causes” but are unlikely to become serious, southern Maine and areas of the midcoast region were at high fire risk, meaning “fires can start easily from most causes” and may become serious and difficult to control, according to the Maine Forest Service
