Former England cricketer Monty Panesar today abandoned his bid to become an MP after admitting he needs more time to ‘find my political feet’.

The 42-year-old stunned Westminster by last week declaring he would be a general election candidate for George Galloway’s Workers Party of Britain.

But the ex-spin bowler, who played 50 Test matches for England, has now ended his short-lived attempt to enter the House of Commons.

‘I realise I need more time to listen, learn and find my political home, one that aligns with my personal and political values,’ he said.

It comes after Panesar seemed stumped about his party’s policies in a series of car-crash TV and radio appearances last week.

These included an admission he was ‘not really an expert’ on NATO, the Western security alliance that Mr Galloway wants Britain to withdraw from.
