THE PLAYERS’ union PFA Ireland have announced a new €140,000 deal to help members buy their football boots.
The union has an agreement with retailer Sports Direct that will see all of their 350 members receive a €200 voucher for boots this year and again next year.
Most footballers go through three to five pairs of footwear each season, costing many players up to €1,000 per year.
And the PFAI’s general secretary Stephen McGuinness acknowledged it has been a long-held aim of his body to do a deal of this nature.
