So when golf came to the Olympics, it was kind of strange... but for me personally, anyway. I know to go back to Ireland winning an Olympic medal would be like a dream," said Shane Lowry, of Team Ireland.Lowry and his teammate, Rory McIlroy, recently won the 2024 Zurich Classic in New Orleans, the only team event on the PGA Tour. The two Irishmen are now preparing to team up again this summer. Their goal is to bring Olympic gold back to the Emerald Isle.Golf returned as an Olympic medal sport for the 2016 Rio Games after a 108-year absence. Both Lowry and McIlroy competed for Team Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics."I was in a seven-way playoff in Tokyo for a bronze medal, and I've never tried so hard to finish third in my life," McIlroy said.McIlroy finished tied for fourth in Tokyo. The upcoming Olympics golf tournament will be played at Le Golf National, a course McIlroy is familiar with. In 2018, he played on that course and helped Europe win the Ryder Cup.
