Syracuse, N.Y. – Luigi’s Restaurant is still for sale.
And it’s still open for business, Donald Campbell, the kitchen manager, said this week.
The Italian restaurant known for its giant meatballs, pizza and seafood specialties went on the market last fall. The owners want to sell the property as a working restaurant. A couple of offers were made by people who had other ideas, Campbell said, so the wait continues.
Each summer, Luigi’s normally closes at the beginning of July for a short vacation, Campbell said. This year, the restaurant closed for a couple of extra days to complete some renovations in the front room and dining room, and to do some painting.
“People got nervous,” Campbell said. “We’re still here.”
Louis “Luigi” Savastino opened his restaurant in 1954 on South Avenue in Syracuse. A couple of years later, he moved the pasta, pizza and steak restaurant to Valley Drive, where it’s been ever since.
